Join Lee Lanier for an in-depth discussion in this video Adding the final color pass, part of VFX Techniques: Space Scene 01 Maya Animation and Dynamic Simulation.
…And made some adjustments to our specular…material that's being used for our specular layer.…That may lead to some problems.…Let's take a look at that.…So while I'm on frame 35, I'll test render…the ship here, just with the ship spec layer.…Here we go.…So there's definitely a lot of specularity.…Now the problem is when this is recombined with the rest of the…passes like the diffuse pass, spec layer will show up and nothing else.…Remember that the ship was left fairly dark on frame 35 in terms of lighting.…It's not much light underneath there.…What we can do to offset that and prepare for compositing is to make one…more render layer for the ship, then make it so it shows off the color.…
So we can eventually use that color to add it back.…Let's give that a try.…This time I'll only need the ship itself. Just the ship node…right here. We create a new layer,…we name this ship color.…And then we'll make a material override that shows the color,…but doesn't have any of the darkness or any of the shading.…So I'll go into the Hyper Shade and make a brand new material.…
