Box blur is a simple effect that's technically identical to a Gaussian or fast blur. With one important difference, the ability to set iterations. Even at the default setting, it provides a quick and dirty alternative to the more render intensive camera lens blur. This can be useful when matching background to focus of one or many layers. Let's use this sticker as an example. Now regular blur isn't going to match the look of defocusing, because as we've seen, it blends pixels together and will gray out these white areas. A box blur however emphasizes them in a way that's similar to what you see with camera lens blur. Here at the beginning, I can key frame this blur radius to match the other blurring that I see on the back wall. And then I can go to the end and make it a lot heavier. Now if you study it closely, it doesn't look perfect, but in the context of the whole scene, it doesn't look bad. Actually I'm probably going a little bit harder than I need to there.
