Hi! I'm Chris Meyer of Crish Design and welcome to After Effects CS5.5 New Creative Techniques. Now don't be fooled by the .5, into thinking this is a release you can just ignore. There are a lot of significant new features both for visual effects and motion graphics artists. For example there is a brand-new Warp Stabilizer, which can remove or smooth out camera movement in a shot. There are significant updates to 3D cameras and lights. There is a brand-new stereoscopic 3D rig and a lot of other nice little tools like an Orbit Camera tool, new expression controllers, new ways of sorting for information, the ability to read source timecode from your footage, a lot of nice little things like that.
For those with a suite version, such as Production Premium or Master Collection, you'll also find Adobe Audition for both Mac and Windows. This is an industrial-strength audio editing program and worth including in your workflow. Now normally my goal in these Creative Techniques courses it just to give you the lay of the land of the new features and an idea of how you might put them to use. So you can decide when you want to upgrade and if you do upgrade, so that you can hit the ground running. However, I do know some of you like to work along on your own computer when you're learning a new features. Therefore as a starting point for all of these examples, I'm going to use example files out of Creating Motion Graphics (5th Edition) for CS5.
If you have a copy I'm going to be calling out the example file number and the composition number I am in, so you can work along with me. Well enough talking. There is a lot of fun stuff in this program and I want to show you how you can put them to use and use them effectively, so let's dive in and have some fun.
