Using Edge Detection for softening

- We've looked at using the Edge Detection for sharpening images, but let's have a look at it for blurring as well. Here is a render of a 3D model of a car. When we zoom in on it, you can see that there are some very ragged edges around the areas of high contrast. Once again, we'll duplicate the layer, and we'll use Filter Detect Edges. And because the edges were ragged in the first place, it produces a ragged result. Let's blur this, we'll use Filter, Blur, and Gaussian Blur. Just enough to soften those edges. I'm going to apply that. Now, let's go to Layer, and Rasterise to Mask. And we'll hide this layer. Back on our original, let's duplicate the layer, and let's apply a Live Filter Layer, and we'll use Gaussian Blur. And we can set as big a radius as we want on here. When we grab that mask and drag it down into that blur, we'll need to tile it on to view it, and we have to choose where we set the radius. When it's at zero, then we see the original effect of those ragged edges. As…
