Setting up Frequency Separation
- [Instructor] Frequency separation is a way of separating an image into its high and low frequency components so that we can work on them independently. Let's zoom in on this image. And we can see wrinkles around this woman's eyes and around her mouth. We could just use blemish removal or the clone tool to get rid of those, but that's going to duplicate the image in a way that is not convincing. With frequency separation, we can get much better results. Let's start by duplicating this layer so that we can compare our results to the original later. And we'll go to filter and choose frequency separation. On the right, we can see all the color information. And you can see it's quite blurred. And on the left, we can make out the high frequency data, all of the fine detail. Now we can drag the slider to the right and that moves more of the detail from the low frequency to the high frequency. But in most cases, we're going to want to leave that at its default setting of around two pixels…
