- [Instructor] Let's examine the side navigation pattern, or vertical tab pattern, to help us further organize our site. Side navigation is similar to the tab pattern in that it's used for organizing information on a page and uses a navigation menu to hide and show elements. The side navigation pattern works well when you have a lot of content on the site and you want to further organize within the existing navigation. This pattern is prevalent on sites with a lot of content. For example, you might see this pattern when using help documentation. Here's an example from Visual Studio Code. You can see the side navigation on the left side, and when you click into each top level, there's another layer below. The side navigation pattern can work together with the tab pattern, but there's some hierarchical considerations to take into account.
