Default values

- Avoid setting default values unless you believe a large portion of your users. For example, 90% of them is going to select that particular value. You should definitely avoid it for required fields. Why? Because you're likely to introduce errors. People scan online forms quickly, so don't assume that they will take the time to parse through all of the choices. They might skip something that already has the value present. This rule does not apply to smart values. That is values set based on information available about the user. Smart defaults can make completion faster and more accurate. For example, pre-select the users country based on geolocation data. Still, use these with caution because users tend to leave pre-selected fields the way they are. In this example you can see that the postal code is asked first before city and state, and that's because when we get the postal code we're able to easily know what…
