Blend modes and shape layers

- Here we're going to look at combining Photoshop's shape layers with blending modes. This is a reconstruction of a painting by László Moholy-Nagy, Hungarian painter and photographer. And if we take a look at the Layers panel, we can see that, if I just break it down to the background layer, on top of that background layer, I have a series of overlapping shape layers. These have been edited using the Direct Selection tool. And importantly, and really the punchline of this movie, the blending mode has been changed as well as the Opacity. So while shape layers typically provide a supporting role to our compositions, in this particular case, shape layers are center stage. And if you did want to experiment with different blending modes, the easy way to do that is, if you are in your Move tool, you can press Shift + or Shift - to cycle through your available blend modes.
