Providing instance names

- [Instructor] Okay. Time to set up our project for interactivity by enabling any code rewrite to target specific objects by name. We can do this through the assignment of instance names and the creation of an actions layer. First of all, we have our buttons symbol here. So let's click on it and notice that with the button selected, we are prompted to enter an instance name in the object properties. Now only movie clip symbol instances and button symbol instances can be given an instance name. Those are the only two symbol types that are interactive. Graphic symbols only have to do with animation and cannot receive any sort of interactivity. But since this is a button symbol, we can give it an instance name. I'm going to just name this "start button." And notice I've named this differently from the actual symbol name. The symbol, I've got a capital S and a capital B and so forth.
