- [Voiceover] This chapter will introduce you to the various kinds of PDFs that you may encounter, from scanned PDFs to ones that are fully hyperlinked and bookmarked with live fonts. PDFs that originated from a native application, such as Microsoft XL, SolidWorks, or CAD program I will refer to as vector PDFs. They are inherently different scanned PDFs, and they will behave differently when using the PDF commenting tools. In this chapter, we will discuss scanned PDFs, vector PDFs with non-searchable text, and vector PDFs with fully searchable texts. Scanned PDFs are basically an on-screen version of printed paper. They lack the bookmarks and interactive features of an original or vector PDF. They are also generally missing any useful metadata such as author name, title, and keywords. They image quality of the PDF is determined at the time of scanning. There is no way to up-sample a poorly scanned, low resolution PDF.
