This video discusses why a rich black may be necessary, how to create it, and how to incorporate it into a gradient.
- [Instructor] When you have large areas of a single color,…sometimes that requires special handling.…In the case of black, on an offset press,…the black ink is actually not a very strong black.…So when you're covering large areas, you need to add…to that black to make it richer.…Now here it looks nice and rich onscreen,…and that's the default behavior in InDesign,…but I want to show you a setting that might help you…troubleshoot things like this.…If you go to edit preferences on Windows,…or you go to InDesign preferences on the Mac,…I want you to go all the way down near the bottom…once you're in that mode and choose appearance of black.…
So it says onscreen, printing, and export.…How do you want it to look, and how do you want it…to print?…I think it's a good idea to set this at a more realistic…choice, instead of display all blacks as rich blacks,…it doesn't make them rich black, it just makes them…look nice and rich onscreen.…I suggest you choose display all blacks accurately.…Now it might be a little subtle on my screen,…
