- [Instructor] With Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Document Cloud you can convert virtually any file you wish to the PDF format. This makes sense when you want to ensure the visual integrity of your document and you don't want to worry about text reflow or missing fonts when you send the document to another user. Let's look at how we can convert other documents to the PDF format. Now to get started, I'm here with Adobe Acrobat open on my computer. And one of the ways in which we can convert any other document to a PDF is by coming up here and choosing tools and selecting create PDF.
Now this functionality is really a function of Acrobat and not specific to the Document Cloud. But it does allow us then to upload this document to the Document Cloud. So we'll use this as initial example. I'm going to click select a file. And I can choose a file from wherever I wish. Now I don't have this file in the Document Cloud yet, but if I navigate to chapter four in the exercise files folder I'm going to select the H+ Sport marketing plan.
And I'll go ahead and choose open. And then I'll go ahead and click the advanced settings, and this is where you can choose your PDF preset that you want to use. This is how the file is going to get created. So I'm going to leave this set to standard. And you can have it add bookmarks to the PDF if you wish as well as links and even make it accessible which is a pretty cool feature that's built into this process. So I'm going to go ahead and click OK and I'm going to click the create button. Now you notice the dialog or the status bar in the lower right.
You can see that it's converting it to a PDF, and in a few seconds here is the PDF file that it generated. Now again, right now it's in kind of a limbo state because the PDF file has been generated, but it's really not been saved anywhere. So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to go ahead and click on the save files to Adobe Document Cloud, and that's going to upload that to my Document Cloud account. So now if I close this and I make sure I'm in the Document Cloud category, right here is the marketing plan file that I converted to a PDF.
So really efficient and fast way of accomplishing that. Now the other way that we can do this is without even using Acrobat at all. I'm going to come down here at the bottom and I'm going to choose Go To Adobe Document Cloud Website. And as you know by now, that's going to open up the Document Cloud webpage on my web browser. And in this interface you're also going to see the create PDF button up here. Now remember, this is all web based at this point.
So I'm going to choose create PDF. And then I'll click the select files to convert to PDF button. And now I can choose the files that I want to use. Now once again I can access my Document Cloud files if I wish. There's all the files that I have available. And you'll notice I'm not seeing any of the PDFs because they don't come into play when you're trying to convert a file to a PDF. I can even access my Creative Cloud files if I wish. But what I'm going to do is I'm going to choose my computer 'cause that's where the files exist right now.
And I'll select choose files from my computer. Again, we're going to go into that chapter four folder. And I'm going to select the Landon Manual. And you'll see that that's going to convert that Word document to a PDF file. Now the difference here, you know that file is called Landon Manual, and you'll notice that if I go back to my files in Document Cloud, that that is already added to my Document Cloud.
So that's one of the differences between using Acrobat and using the Document Cloud website. It'll actually automatically add it to your Document Cloud files. And just one other thing to show you. If I click create PDF again and I choose select files to convert, I'm going to go back to that chapter four folder and I'm going to select this Landon logo. And this is an Illustrator file. And if you're in the business world there's a pretty good chance you don't have Adobe Illustrator on your computer, and in cases like that, you can't even open the file so it's kind of hard to do much with it, but via this method I can select an Illustrator file, go ahead and open that, and it's going to, without even questioning the process, it's going to convert that Illustrator file to a PDF as well.
And of course, if I go back to my Document Cloud files you're going to see that right here is that Landon logo that I converted from an Illustrator file to a PDF. So you have a lot of flexibility and a lot of control on how you're going to create that PDF file from just about any file. It could be images, it could be text files, it could be Word, Excel, you name it. So when you need to convert various documents to a PDF file, look no further than Adobe Acrobat and the Adobe Document Cloud.
