From the course: Construction Estimating Takeoff
Unused materials
- [Teacher] Just a quick note about material pricing. Materials are normally sold in certain quantities or nominal quantities. Wire is normally sold by 200 or 400 feet. Conduit is normally sold in the hundreds of feet. But you'll notice my estimate has very finite numbers. 175 feet, 450 feet. The reality is I can't buy 175 feet of conduit. Or I can't buy 450 feet of number 12 wire. If this project is very large, the additional unused material is negligible in the grand scope of the estimate. However, if you're estimating a small project, you may want to take into consideration that you may have to buy more material than you'll actually install on the job, and those costs must be recovered.
