Labor only

Labor only

- [Narrator] There are some labor only items on a project that must be included on the takeoff. These are not the keyed notes or the written directive items I spoke about before, but they are similar. Remember when I mentioned you should be familiar with a particular trade that you are estimating? This is why. Labor tasks that are peripheral to the actual installation of materials, but still must be done, are considered labor only items. This could be anything from stripping plywood forms off of a concrete pore to labeling conduit or piping systems, large material handling or setting in place or preparing a copper pipe to be soldered. These are all important tasks and the labor hours add-up. They're directly related to the installation of the material but they are not always necessarily included in the labor units and your labor unit publication or guide. You may need to use your own personal experience or that of your crew to labor these tasks.
