Using input masks
Input Masks are a field property that automatically formats Phone Numbers, Social Security Numbers, and other data, so that all you have to do is enter the numbers. Let's go to our SalesReps table, right- click on it and open it in Design View. Go down to your HomePhone and in the Field Properties at the bottom, click on Input Mask. A Build button will appear on the right-hand side, click on it. The first Input Mask we want is PhoneNumber. So I'll click Next. Here it offers me an option for what I want my placeholder to be. An underscore is nice because it looks like an underline, like a fill in the blank. But if you wanted, you could change it to a number sign or another character. I'll click Next. Now, it wants to know how I want to store my data. I like to store it with my punctuation, with the parentheses, and the space and the dash. If I wanted, I could store it so it's just numbers, but it will still look like the Phone Number in my table. I'll click Next and then Finish. Let's…
