Learn how to encrypt a database with a password and maintain databases using Compact and Repair.
- [Instructor] There are two very important tools…that I want to share with you.…That will really help you maintain your databases.…Those are:…Creating a backup of your database,…and compacting and repairing a database.…Have you've ever received an error message…that your database has been corrupted?…If that has ever happened to you,…you probably had a panic moment.…But, I'm going to show you just how easy it is…to repair your database.…Let's take a look at the 02_04 Maintain: Database.…
First, I want to take a look at the New Customers table.…Let's go into Design View,…and I want you to take a look at the field size…for each of the fields.…Customer ID is 255 characters.…We really don't need more than 10 character spaces held…for that particular field.…Look at Company.…It's also 255 character spaces.…Address. The same thing.…State. They're all 255 character spaces.…What that means is…each time you enter a record into Access,…it's actually holding 255 character spaces for you.…
You may only need a few of those.…If you don't go in and compact the database…
