Locking files - Microsoft Access Tutorial
From the course: Access 2007: Shortcuts
Locking files
When you look at an open Access data in Windows, you'll see that there are actually now two files; one is your original database, but you have a second file that has a little lock on the icon, and the file extension also has an L at the beginning of it. This is called a lock file. Access creates this file because it automatically saves your data as you work. If you are going to be doing any database management and moving your database, make sure you move the original file. Don't move the lock file accidentally. If you try and open the lock file, you will get an error message. Being aware of lock files will help you with your database management.
