Paging through hundreds of records is not a realistic way to find an individual’s details in a table. In this video, learn how to add search functionality to a form. Database expert Adam Wilbert walks through the process of adding a combo box that allows users to jump directly to a specific record by typing in the last name of the hotel’s guest.
- [Instructor] On our check-in form,…we have a situation where…it's difficult to find a specific guest.…Right now, we can page forward and backward…using the record selectors at the bottom of the screen…to take a look at the different people…that appear in the database,…but imagine trying to locate the correct page…for someone that's looking to book a room.…We can alleviate this by adding…a search box into the top of our form…that allow us to find a guest based off of their last name.…To do that, I'll switch my view into design view.…I'll come over here on the home tab,…press the bottom portion of the view button,…and choose design view.…Then, I'm gonna make my form a little bit wider…so I have some room to work.…
Let's come over here to the right, and I'll click and drag…until it gets out to about the nine-inch mark,…taking a look at the rulers here on the top of the screen.…Then, in the design tab,…I'll take a look at the controls group…and I'm gonna scroll through these controls.…These are all the different things we can add here…
