Utilizing parameters
- [Instructor] On a high level, parameters allow us to ask what if questions about our data. For example, let's say we have $100, and we want to determine the total amount after certain number of years, and interest rate accrued. The interest rate is the parameter value in our expressions as it enables us to determine the time value of money by changing the rate. What does this look like it's 6%? What about if the interest rate drops to 4%? QuickSight defines parameters as named variables that can transfer a value for use by an action or object. A parameter can work with a number of different dashboard elements such as filters, calculations, or URL actions to change the appearance of the visuals. This control can be a list of options, a slider, or a text entry area. Even if you don't create a control, you can pass a value to your parameter in your dashboard URL.
