What is a cookie?

- [Instructor] Cookies, or as we call them differently, H-T-T-P cookies, are small bits of data stored as text files on a browser. Websites use cookies to keep track of users, and enable user-specific features. They enable core web app functionalities, like e-commerce shopping carts, and are also used for more controversial purposes, such as tracking user activity. Cookies are a necessary part of the way web works. For this reason, casual web users and web developers have a good reason to better understand how these tiny bits of data work. Now, let us illustrate how cookies work with an example. From our web browser, we request a website. So this way, we send a request to a server. Now, the server responds to our request by returning a website which is in Italian. But, we want our website to be in English. so we change the language to English. This way, the browser will create a cookie with a language set to English. So…
