Installing Information Internet Services (IIS) on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8

In Windows Vista, Internet Information Services is included in the primary installation, but not enabled automatically. To turn on IIS in Vista, follow these steps. Start off in the Control panel. Go to the Start menu and select Control panel and from there click on Programs. In the Program section look under the category Program and Features and click Turn Windows features on or off. It will take a few moments for the Windows Features panel to come to life.

It first scans your computer to find out what features are turned on and which are turned off. In the Windows Features list, locate Internet Information Services and open it up. Don't install the entire category. You will be installing a lot of software that you don't need. Go to the category World Wide Web Services and click that entire category.
