Join Brian Bradley for an in-depth discussion in this video The physical sky map, part of Learning mental ray in 3ds Max.
…As in this video we're going to be examining the extra Skylight controls that…can be found on the mental ray Physical Sky Environment map which we…set up during the first exercise for this chapter, if you remember.…We will need to give ourselves access to the map by means of…3ds Max's Material Editor.…To go ahead and…do that, let's first of all hit the 8 key to bring up the Environment and…the Facts dialog which, of course, houses the Environment map slot.…Then we can go ahead and hit the M key to open up the Material Editor as well.…
Now, currently I have the Material Editor set to work in Compact Mode,…which essentially is the original 3Ds Max Material Editor.…But, we could just as easily do this in the newer Slate version, if we preferred.…All we're going to do is left-click and drag on the Physical Sky map and…drop it into any available material that is a slot.…If working in Slate, we would just drop this onto an empty area of the canvas.…In the Instance our copy dialog that pops up,…we do need to make certain that the Instance option is the one we choose,…
