What you need to know

- [Instructor] I'd like to take a moment to discuss the course prerequisites or what you need to know. This is an intermediate level course, and we assume that you have some experience in 3ds Max. You don't need to be an expert, but you should have some basic grounding in the program. If you're just starting with Max, I recommend that you take a look at the beginner courses I've authored, Learning 3ds Max 2020 and 3ds Max 2020 Essential Training. We're not going to be doing any modeling or animation in this course. Our focus is on materials and lighting. It would help if you have some experience in these specializations, but it's not strictly necessary. If you want to get fully up to speed in those areas, I've authored several courses to help you, 3ds Max: Advanced Materials, 3ds Max: Advanced Lighting, and 3ds Max: Rendering with Arnold. To put the finishing touches on our images, we'll be importing render passes into Adobe After Effects. We'll be using just the most basic features of that program, so you don't need to be an expert there either. It would help if you have some experience in After Effects, but even if don't, you could probably get by. Of course, we have many courses in the library here to get you started in After Effects. And because we're working with basic concepts and techniques, what we're doing is not really specific to After Effects. You could apply what you learn here to almost any compositing or video post-production application. Those are the prerequisites for this course.
