Using the exercise files

- [Narrator] If you have access to the exercise files, I've created for this course, then download those and unzip them to convenient location, such as on your desktop. If you don't have access to the exercise files, you can still follow the demos using your own assets. And you can actually even just learn by observation, even if you don't have 3ds Max in front of you at all. For example, if you're on a mobile device. If you are following along in 3ds Max using your own assets, you'll need to create a project folder for that. Let's create a new empty folder here on my desktop. I'll just right click, and choose new folder, and give it a name 3ds Max product Viz. With that empty folder created let's open up 3ds Max, I've got that minimized. And we'll want to create a new default project folder structure in that empty folder. I've got the projects toolbar visible here. If you're not seeing that, then you can right click on the textured bar of any toolbar and enable projects. Currently, we're seeing the default project folder, which is in the current users documents 3ds Max version number. We want to create a new default project folder structure, and to do that, we'll click on the button labeled create default, and then we need to navigate. So, it'll be on my desktop and here it is 3ds Max product Viz. Just select that folder and click the button labeled select folder. And now, an entire project folder structure has been created, we can investigate. I'll minimize Max once again, go into 3ds Max product Viz and we'll see the characteristic project folder structure for Max. And you can drop your own assets into scenes and scene assets and so on. Okay, so, if you are following along using the exercise files I've provided, you'll want to point 3ds Max at that project folder structure, I'll go back to Max and appear on the project's toolbar, we've got a button labeled set active project, click on that. And once again navigate, this time choose the folder labeled exercise files and click, Select folder. And now, if we go to the file menu and choose open, we're taken to the current project, exercise files scenes and these are all the scene files for the course. And generally speaking, one scene file will flow into the next scene file. In other words, in many cases the scene file that you open is actually the end state for the previous movie. If I open up 01_05, that's the beginning state of 01_05, but it's also the end state for 01_04. Unless you see a label finished example, I've provided those finished examples, just so that you can compare to your own work. All right, I'm not going to open any file, I'm just going to cancel out of here. I've also provided some rendered images, let's take a look at a couple of those. If we go into the file menu to view image file, we'll want to go into our current projects render output folder, and there are a bunch of images in here. The ones that are labeled example are here, so that you don't get an error message when you render out new files. So, you're going to create a folder, for example, called drone hdri draft, and drop some files in there in the course of the lessons, so that you don't get a file error message, when you try to create something that already exists. I have provided these files in a folder called example. So, the ones that are labeled example are the ones that you're actually going to create over the course. And I've got some other ones here that are not labeled example that are just renderings, that we'll use in After Effects. And if we go into one of these folders, such as drone hdri production, we'll see that there are a bunch of exr images. You can select one of those and open it and click through this dialogue, and here is an image that I've rendered out. Additionally, I've got some after effects files. Let's take a look at that, I'll minimize Max, go into the exercise files folder and I've added an After Effects folder to the 3ds Max project. Inside there are some After Effects project files. And additionally, some final rendered output images, and these are the ones that have been sweetened. For example, I've got one that has no glow and one that has glow. So, we can open that up and take a look at that. Here's a version with no glow applied and then I'll just go forward one, we can see we've got a version that has some glow applied. All right, those are the exercise files for the course.
