Join Brian Bradley for an in-depth discussion in this video Unified Sampling controls: Part one, part of Learning mental ray in 3ds Max.
…Over the next two videos, we are going to take a look at the controls made…available for tweaking and tuning the quality, of our unified sampling renders.…The scene we're working with consists, as you can see,…of a fairly innocuous looking set up, that, nevertheless presents a number,…of fairly typical challenges to, our image sampling engine.…We have, for instance, plenty of straight lines in the scene,…both in terms of materials and the geometry itself.…These, of course, can be the bane of pixel-based graphics applications.…We also have, on our materials, both normal and blurred reflections.…
We have noisy surface patterns, flat color surfaces, and of course, we are making…use of the IBL scale light mode, which at is default shadow quality setting of 0.5,…is throwing quite a lot of shadow noise into the scene.…Now, whenever we start with a new blank scene in 3DS Max that has Mental Ray…set as the production renderer, if I just open up the render set up dialogue and…come in to the renderer tab, we will find ourselves working with these settings.…
