Join Brian Bradley for an in-depth discussion in this video Photons and Final Gather combined, part of Learning mental ray in 3ds Max.
…So far in this chapter we have seen what both Final Gather and Photon Mapping can…do individually, as regards creating a GI lighting solution for our interior scene.…What we haven't take a look at though, is what both of them combined can produce.…Which is exactly what we will be looking at in this video.…Indeed, the start scene we're working with here is essentially,…a straight continuation from our previous Photon Mapping exercise with all of…the same photon options already in place.…This means that I will need to perform a little bit of a tweak to…the scene before I can go ahead and re-enable Final Gather.…Essentially, I need to recreate our Sky Portal so…as to be sure that Final Gather is getting all the help it…needs in order to produce as fast and as high quality a solution as possible,…given of course the settings that we are going to be working with here.…
To do that, let's select our Lights layer over in the Layer Manager and…then switching over to a full view, frame up on our window opening in the right view…
