Join Brian Bradley for an in-depth discussion in this video Outputting diagnostics with Unified Sampling, part of Learning mental ray in 3ds Max.
…Many existing users of Mental Ray in 3DS Max have over the years,…developed a working pipeline that includes making use of…Mental Ray's diagnostic tools as a means of figuring out just where in…a scene the majority of image samples are being used.…This, of course, is a brilliant way to fine tune, and so…get the best possible speed to quality ratio from our renders.…However, we will run into a bit of a problem with that work flow,…whilst using the unified sampling mode.…If I just hit the F10 key here to open up the Render Setup dialog, and…then jump into the Renderer tab, you can clearly see in our scene file here that we…are currently using the default Unified Sampling option.…
Unfortunately, this means if I now jump into the processing tab…where the diagnostic rollout is housed,…that we no longer have the ability to enable mental raised diagnostic controls.…To prove that this is not just some random 3DS Max glitch,…let's jump back to the image sampling controls, enable Classic Mode, and…then coming back to the Diagnostic options,…
