- The next step is to revolve this profile shape…round an axis, and thereby create a three-dimensional model.…To do that, select the line, open the modifier list…and select the Lathe modifier.…This modifier is great for objects that are…turned on a lathe, like a piece of wood or a…piece of metal.…It could also be used for simulating glassware…that's blown.…Or pottery that's thrown on a wheel, or even…a car tire.…
Basically it works for anything that's…radially symmetric.…However, this object that we get doesn't…really resemble the piece of pottery that…we were working with.…And the reason is, the axis is in the middle…of the profile shape.…Let's try Minimum down here, click…Align Min.…And now we're getting kind of the inverse…of what we drew.…Can you see this shape here of the pottery…and the base.…You know, what we're seeing is sort of…the opposite thing.…
I'm going to press "P" to go into perspective…and let's just take a look at that.…So this object is sort of unexpected…coming from where we started, but it's…interesting.…

8/5/2015In this course, author Scott Onstott shows you how to build walls, doors, windows, stairs, railings, moldings, cloth, pottery, furniture, grass, trees, landscapes, and much more, using splines, modifiers, Booleans, and NURBS modeling. You'll also learn to texture-map objects, light them with both direct and indirect illumination, place virtual cameras, render, and animate scenes.
- Working with files and objects from other programs
