Detailing with Chamfer
- [Voiceover] Another very common modeling operation that you'll need to perform many times is chamfer, and that will create an angled edge or a bevel, and it's important because if you have really harsh right angled edges on things, then your shading won't look good because you won't be able to capture the glint of light on the edges of things. Chamfer is really important, so I want to create a chamfered edge everywhere on the sides of the staircase here. I could have created these sides of the staircase as chamfer boxes to begin with, but then I would have had problems later on when I tried to, for example, constrain the sub-object transforms as we saw in the last movie. In general with 3D modeling, a good practice is to work from the general to the specific. In other words, rough out the shape of something and get it pretty much the way you need it and then add the little teeny details at the end of your workflow. We're now in a good place to add those chamfer details. I'll select…
