Control grid size and spacing.
[Instructor] - Now that we have a good grasp…on how units and scale work in 3ds Max,…lets set up a scene with our own chosen units of measurement…and sizing for the grid.…We'll start by going into the Customize menu,…and choose Units Setup.…And then within here, I'm going to choose Metric…as my display unit scale,…with centimeters as the default units, and click OK.…Now I want to set up the size and spacing of the grid.…
To do that, I can go to one of these magnet icons up here,…we have Snaps for position, and angles, and so on.…Just right-click on any one of those magnet icons,…and the Grid and Snap Settings window comes up.…The Snaps tab let's us choose what we're going to snap to.…I want to set up the home grid, so go to the Home Grid tab.…And here we have the Grid Spacing,…and it's currently set to 25.4 centimeters in my scene.…And that's about ten inches.…
I'll set the Grid Spacing to one centimeter.…Type in a one, and press the Tab key,…and immediately the grid changed in all the viewports.…And the grid spacing of one centimeter…

Learn how to get around the 3ds Max interface and customize it to suit your preferences. Discover how to model different objects using splines, polygons, subdivision surfaces, and freeform sculpting. Then, learn to construct hierarchies, add cameras and lights, and animate with keyframes. Author Aaron F. Ross also takes an in-depth look at materials and texture mapping, as well as options for rendering engines such as Arnold and ART.
