- We use slate on floors in addition to roofs…and it's a great place to really show off a normal map…as your slate sparkles in the sun…or has the light spill gently across it.…I've got a craftsman theme room here…where it's got a cove ceiling, a picture rail,…a pair of paired French doors…with craftsman style trim, all done in wood grain…and a floor that's at the moment the color of pea soup…and ready for a material.…I'll press M to bring up my material editor…and make a slate material using the tiles I've created…Here in my slate material editor,…I'm going to go in and make a new mental ray material,…dragging in an arc and design material.…
Double clicking on it to pull it up in the properties…and I'll name this slate flooring.…I'll double click on the sample sphere…and zoom in to see it clearly.…I'm going to set this out as a pearl finish,…pulling up on the template and choosing pearl finish.…Then I'll bring up the reflectivity to, we'll try .5…and a gloss of .5.…I'm guessing at these and I may adjust these later…
