Another style of 3D printing that I want to talk about is powder prints. There are various types of powder parts and processes. SLS, or Selective laser sintering, is one of the most common. With SLS, a vat of plastic powder is smoothed into a thin layer. A laser then melts that layer of material, and the part moves down, and another layer of powder is spread across the part. That layers melted, and again, the process continues. Let's take a look at some samples and review the parts. SLS parts will have a sugar cube like finish, a slightly rough texture. But, have the benefit of being very reasonable to produce, plus work well with large overhangs and holes. Another style of printer, made by Z Corp, uses glue and an inkjet style print head, that dispense the glue in thin layers to bind the powder together.
