When to use a raft

Now we'll take a closer look at how to choose advanced print settings. First, we'll talk about rafts. You have the option to print with or without a raft. What is a raft? And when should you use one? A raft is a base layer that is printed underneath a model. The plastic extrusion is thicker and it's put down slower than the layers in the rest of your model. This provides good adhesion to the print bed, and a solid base to build your model. Ideally, your raft should be easily removable from the print bed, and easily removed from the bottom of your model. Why use a raft? First, rafts are recommended for new users. Successful 3D prints require a level build platform, and that leveling process can take some time and experience to master. The thick raft layer can help even out the print surface. If your design requires support material because it has unsupported overhangs or doesn't have a flat bottom, you need to use a raft.
