What you should know

- [Instructor] This course compliments the existing textbooks in animation, in particular, these three by Eric Goldberg, Richard Williams, and Nancy Beiman. These classic books use a 24 frame per second rate as do I, there are 24 frames in a second, and 16 frames in a foot. So if you're working in CGI or a video format, with a different frame rate, just bear that in mind when you see my timing numbers throughout. If you are drawing by hand, also remember, a 24 frame per second rate means you have six fewer drawings to draw per second, and that can really add up. And just so that you guys can see the difference, here's a walk cycle with different frame rates and you can see immediately the different numbers. The contact pose is 13 on the top row and 16 below. So you should never just look at a 24 FPS timing chart and map that onto a 30 or any other frame rate, adjust accordingly. I do not want you to regard this course as a checklist. You're going to get good by integrating the many foundations together. And it's only going to take you a couple of hours to learn the content in this course. But learning how to juggle them and integrate them is a long term project. You start with smaller but achievable challenges. Things that are just slightly out of your reach, but can be achieved. So with that small warning out of the way, let's start on the 21 foundations.
