Welcome

- Hello, I'm Dermot O'Connor. In this series I'll be covering tips and tricks to help your animations have more vitality and quality, not just that, the correct application of these techniques can also increase your output, sometimes dramatically. Each week, I'll not only cover the basic principles of animation, but also show you how to apply them in practical examples. It's one thing to know about squash and stretch, timing, the creation of key frames and breakdowns, but it's another thing to see how they're correctly applied. The best animators know how to create the illusion of complexity by working on top of a few very simple building blocks. It's easy to create simple and stiff animation, and it's easy to create fussy and loose animation. The challenge is to find the sweet spot, the Goldilocks zone where the balance is just right. Getting to this level takes time. I know other artists who are naturals, and they were drawing feature quality work in their late teens. Aptitude varies, but hard work and perseverance are the most crucial qualities that you can have. So, put this series in your playlist, and each week a new movie will appear in your queue. With patience and practice you'll be on your way, and we might even have a little fun, so thanks for watching.
