In this video, learn how keyboard triggers allow you to activate animated actions with the click of a key.
- Triggers let you launch actions as you work in real time. And proper design of the placement of your triggers helps you in production, and you can use more that just your keyboard. (upbeat music) Triggers are best when they are both easy to remember and easy to use. Keep them grouped so you don't have to look at them to use them. And you might want to concentrate on the left hand keys on your keyboard so that your right hand can use your mouse. Of course, you can also use the visual triggers in your control tab.
That's right down here on the bottom, if you look under controls. So any one of these visual controls down on the bottom can activate something. And of course, you've got the Stream Deck. An external device that we showed in one of the earlier videos. But you can also trigger movement using your head. So let's create a quick head movement trigger, and we'll have our character here wave using it. Now, we could use the W key, or this icon right here to make our character wave.
But what if we're doing something like animation that wants to go along with a video gamer as he's doing something, and both his hands are working on the controller. Well, if your hands are on the controller, it's kind of hard to hit the W key or to use your mouse. So, we're going to show you how to use just your head. So, let's go to Rig. I'm going to select my top character name. And we're going to add a behavior. We're going to add our head turner behavior. Now down here is where I have my wave arm, and I've got my default where it's just hanging at its side.
We actually need to use both here. So I'm going to select my default, and I'm going to have my default be my frontal face. So under tags I'm going to select the frontal tag for the face. Cause when I'm looking right at camera, I want his arms down. Then when I want the wave to happen, I simply select that task. That wave task. And I'm going to select my profile. So when I look off to that direction, I should see the arm wave. So let's take a look. Go back to our record tab.
Alright, so I'm standing there, we've got the arm down. That's right. So what happens when I look up to the side? Ope! There it is. Look at that. No hands, mom! Look at this. So, I could have any number of my head turns, or I could do up or down head turns, to activate different types of actions. So it's another really cool thing that you can do. So think ahead as to how you plan to produce your animation. And then create your triggers to make them as easy to use as possible.
