In this video, learn how to add interactive controls to your character control panel, like transparency, location, breath rate, and more.
- So, do you want to have your characters fly through a scene or fade away in the middle of a shot all in real time? Well, you can do all that and more. (playful music) The controls tab down at the bottom of the screen allows you to control lots of elements of your puppet all in real time. And, a lot more than just a standard trigger. So, let's go down. Let's make this a little bit bigger. Select our controls tab. So, these are the visual controls that you can automatically generate.
For instance, if I click the W here, the hand waves or this hand going out from the side just a little bit. Okay, so that's all fine. But, what if I want to do other things? Under the controls tab, if I select layout anything that's over in our properties tab that's outlined, I can actually use in my controls tab. So, for instance, let's go down to transform. So, let's bring scale in if I want to make my character bigger or smaller.
Let's do position X. That's left to right where you are on the screen and let's bring in an opacity. So, click on perform in order to use them. So, now, if I want to make my character small or big. Now, notice how it's really, I can't, I don't move this much and it's really going big. Let me show you why. So, on any of these, you can adjust how much it'll grow or shrink. So, I don't want it to go more than 150% bigger and I don't want it going any smaller than 25%.
So, let's go back to perform. And now, if I move it, it's staying within. Here's the smallest and there is the biggest. So, you can set the parameters of how much something will be being affected. So, you know, my position X. Let's make this guy smaller. So, position X, as I'm talking, and this'll go in real time, I can have my character slide completely out of frame if that number is big enough. So, again, and look, the other thing, watch his hair.
The dynamics and the physics of this, it's like I'm really moving a real character. The hair is effected by it. Well, let' say you've got a ghost or someone goes oh, no, I'm fading away, oh. And there, he fades away. So I, all of this can be handled real time. I was playing with this and I thought there's something else that's really neat, too. So, I have the breath control on this character. Let's make him a little bit bigger. So, let's zoom him up. There, we see he's breathing. So, why would I want to be able to adjust the breath on a character? Well, let's take a look.
Let's move the number of breaths per minute in here and we'll go back to perform. So, right now character's breathing normally but, what if, all the sudden I have a character getting real excited. Cute girl walks by. And all of the sudden, (fast breathing) holy, (fast breathing). And I can adjust that real time as I'm going and then, I take it back to breathing normally. Actually, I think I probably took him down to not breathing at all. So, I can adjust how much or how little he's going to be breathing, so I don't have to worry too much about where my slider goes.
So, you've got a huge amount of options under your properties as you open different things up to see what is outlined when you're in the layout portion of your controls tab that you have full control over here. And, like always, you can adjust these and place them however you want. It's fully customizable. Just make sure you click on perform and then, you can make all your troubles fade away.
