Understanding the Material Analyzer
- [George] Hi, I'm George Maestri. Today we're going to check out Unreal's new Material Analyzer. And it's a great way to look at the materials in your scene and see what's related to what, and ways to also improve your materials. So let's take a quick look at this. We can find this under Window, Developer Tools, Material Analyzer. Now by default it brings up nothing, but we can select a material just through this pull-down menu. Now these are all of the materials in the project, not just our current level. So I'm going to just go to the top here and we'll select 01_Matte_Plastic, and when I do, all of this stuff comes up. And that's because this particular material is related to other materials, it's a child or an instance of those other materials. Now our master material's called Exterior Sconce, but below that we have this Matte Plastic material, and you can see that it has what's called a Base Property Override.…
