- [Instructor] When we model, we usually start at a low resolution, and then add resolution to smooth out the model. Now, Maya has a number of tools that allow you to smooth the model either manually or automatically. Probably the easiest to understand is the Smooth tool. So here I have a simple coffee cup, and as you can see, it's kind of chunky. And maybe we want that to be a little bit smoother. Well, we could certainly add things like bevels and that sort of thing, but another way to do it is to simply smooth it. And we can find smoothing under Mesh, Smooth. And when I select this, it brings up a very simple control. So if I turn the divisions down to zero, you'll see we have the original cup. When I turn it up to one, you can see that it's taken every single polygon in that cup and cut it in half. Two cuts it in half again for a total of 16 extra polygons.
