- [Voiceover] In the last movie I showed you a classic cartoony 1940s style figure and a front view dialogue scene with all the spectrum of mouth shapes from closed to wide to open. Now I want to take a look at a profile view of a different design character, a little more angular and I wanted to show that you're not limited to just one version of each mouth shape in each position, so there's not just one closed mouth shape that you need to work from. And if you're thinking, why does he seem to be chewing, you've asked the right question. Though I'm not trying to make him speak, I still wanted to make the face seem as flexible as possible. In this case as though he was eating. A good dialogue should look like it's chewy. Also note how the corner of the nose and the lower eyelid both move just a little bit. And this keeps the eye from reading the animation as limited, as though it's on layers. The whole mass of the face is being effected by the action of the dialogue. So here's a…
