- [Instructor] The principle of good silhouettes in its essential form is pretty simple to understand. You take a scene that you've already animated. And this is a scene I used in a previous course if it looks familiar. And in the old days, people who were really devout about this would trace off all their drawings and color the entire character black so that there's no internal detail, only the outline. And if you can still read the action and understand what the figure is doing and what they're feeling, then you know you've succeeded. You've communicated the essence. And in this case, we know exactly what's going on. This is an angry man. And, to show this animation in a more extreme setting, we're further back. And even from this distance, you can still see precisely what's going on. The whole performance reads as pure pantomime.
