- [Instructor] I'd like to talk about overlapping action and follow-through which can seem a bit cryptic of all the principles of animation. It's like, what on earth is this overlap thing? So let me show you a simple action with four pieces of fabric suspended from a little bar or pole with no overlap or follow-through. So, as you can see, each one of these pieces of fabric or scarf or whatever these are, they move at exactly the same time. But what happens if we overlap the timing on the furthest one? So we make it a heavier material, we've changed its material properties somehow, so it gets a bit heavier, weightier, maybe it's wetter? Been damp, it hasn't dried out right, so it moves a little more slowly, it's not quite so light. So we can continue this process, now with the second from the furthest. It now has a slightly different material property from the others. So the one on the, closest to us, and the one beside that move fastest, then the red one, and then the one furthest…
