A question asked by a lot of artists who are starting out is: "What application should I use to author textures in?" This video looks at why that question might not be the best one to ask, and looks at how a user can make up their mind as to which application might suit them most. The video will also address why the applications used have been chosen for this course.
- [Instructor] As I suspect you maybe able to guess … where this conversation is going to be heading … if you have watched any of my other courses here … in the online library. … I will try to keep this as brief as possible, … but given that the choice of application we should use … when it comes to texturing is a question … that people do ask frequently, it is something … that we should at least briefly discuss here. … Simply put then, there are many, many options open to us … when it comes to working up the textures … that we want to use in a level. … So we can paint our own in applications … such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter. … We can create them procedurally in programs … like Substance Designer, and we can use photographs … in conjunction with applications … such as Bitmap to Material if we like, … and we can purchase or use textures that people have given … away for free, if we are legally allowed to do so, … and we can even subscribe to whole texture libraries … in order to be able to use anything from there that we want. …
