- [Narrator] In this sequence of movies I'm going to demonstrate the process of working in a very different style. In this case it's the rubber-hose method that was very common in the 1920's and into the early 30's. Before talking about the specifics, it's important to remember that the animation created in a given time, isn't just a matter of the style that they preferred then. Very often that style was determined by the technology of the era, or by the general skill level and knowledge-base of the artists. So re-creating a style from a past era isn't as simple a process as just putting out a few of the more obvious mannerisms and aping them. You have to understand what their technology was, what their strengths and weaknesses were as artists, and what the general aesthetic style of the period was. The animators in the 20's hadn't yet developed the 12 principles of animation that we're familiar with today. So their work reflected that fact, not just in the way to looked, but also the…
