- [Narrator] Let's take a look at a couple of the most important principles used when animating clothing or fabric. Two of the most important are the use of strong shapes such as S and C curves as well as the use of reversal or transitioning from one orientation to another. As you can see here, moving from a right facing C shape into a left facing one or vice versa or from a right facing S curve into a left facing S curve. If we move through these series of frames one by one, you can see how we transition from a C curve into an S curve and from that S curve into a reverse C curve and from that into another S curve to complete the cycle. When animated, we get a classic tail or a whip action and notice how loose it is. This is exactly the feeling that you want to instill in clothing as the vast majority of clothing is loose and flexible. The most basic example of this is with a simple graphical flag.
