What are the differences between the mobile site and the iPhone and iPad app?

The iPhone app is an application that you can download from Apple’s App Store and works only on iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads. The mobile site is a web site that works on mobile device browsers.

I have a tablet. Should I visit the lynda.com full site or the mobile site?

We recommend accessing the full site on tablet devices from its default browser. This includes iPad, Samsung Galaxy, Xoom, and so on. The mobile site is designed for smartphones with screen sizes much smaller than tablets and desktop browsers. We also have a free app available for iOS and Android tablet devices.

What devices does the mobile site support?

You can watch lynda.com videos on iPhone, iPod touch, and Android mobile devices from m.lynda.com.
The lynda.com mobile site is optimized for iOS 3.2+ and Android OS 2.0 to 4.0 devices. The lynda.com mobile site does not fully support Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices. Functionality will be limited, so we don’t recommend accessing the site from these devices.

Can I access my training history from the mobile site?

Absolutely. After logging in, the home page will show the last course you watched. Access all of your settings, including my account, course history, and playlists, from the drop-down menu in the top right corner of any mobile site page.

I’m using an Android device without the Flash plug-in and the video quality is low. Can I view a better video stream?

In August of 2012, Adobe stopped supporting the Flash plug-in on Android devices and disabled installation on new devices. Without Flash, these devices can only access our low-quality progressive download video. We’re working to provide a high-quality option soon. For this reason, we suggest using the Android App available for free in the Google Play Store.

Do I need a membership to use m.lynda.com?

No. As with the full lynda.com site, there are plenty of movies that you can watch for free.

What lynda.com accounts are supported at the mobile site?

Currently the mobile site supports our monthly and annual subscription members and lyndaPro, lyndaClassroom, lyndaCampus, lyndaEnterprise, and lyndaKiosk members.

Unfortunately, not right now. Currently you can only use closed captioning, auto-play, and double speed with the player on the full site.

I have a low-cost data plan. How can I watch the lynda.com movies without racking up my data usage?

We recommend using a Wi-Fi connection while watching lynda.com videos if you have a low-cost data plan. You can also set up your mobile movie quality as “low, for slower connections” in your m.lynda.com mobile settings.

What features are currently not included at the mobile site?

The mobile site is meant for our members to watch the lynda.com movies on the go, so some features are not yet available on the mobile site. For example, administrator account management, account upgrade/downgrade, bookmarks, closed captioning, exercise files, and certificates of completion are not available at this time.
