Defining the degrees of curves and surfaces
In this video we'll define and explore the meaning of degree, and why its so important to NURB space modeling. The concept of a curve and surface degree may sound a little technical but it's actually very straight forward and critical to understanding and controlling your designs. The simplest explanation I could give you is just smoothness. The reason we care is it generates editability and elegance. It also avoids problems. So, for true NURBs modeling, we want to have our curves and surfaces be degree three minimum. Let's take a look at a few examples, and make some tweaks to highlight. I'm going to zoom in to this degree three. This is a curve and it was created with either a poly line, or you could have drawn individual line segments and then joined them together. It's from the control points with an F10. As I move these around you see these all stay joined. And the corners stay sharp, so that's the definition of degree one.
