Weinman is recipient of the 2009 Eastman Kodak Gold Medal Award for her
role as an education pioneer

today announced that co-founder Lynda Weinman has been selected as the
recipient of the 2009 Eastman Kodak Gold Medal Award by the Society of Motion
Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).
Lynda Weinman is being honored for
her "contribution to education of technologies and practitioners in the
field of media production, in particular, as a pioneer in online education
through creation of the website lynda.com which provides affordable,
interactive training programs for film, television, sound, and web
production."

receive this award because I grew up in Los Angeles around the film industry,
and worked for a good part of my career on film and video before I became a

The purpose of the award is to
honor the recipient by recognizing outstanding contributions, which lead to new
or unique educational programs utilizing motion pictures, television,
high-speed and instrumentation photography or other photography sciences. The
award recognizes developments in equipment, systems, or instructional
applications, which result in advancing the educational process at any or all
levels.
SMPTE president Kenneth C. Fuller
will present the award at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, at the Society’s
Honors and Awards Ceremony. The event is part of the Annual Tech Conference and
Expo in Hollywood, CA.
