Importing a CAD model

To create a product shot in Maya of course you will need to have a model. In this case we're going to start with a CAB model that was kindly provided to us by Gabriel Corbett. He created this in a program called Solid-Works. For the lynda.com course solid-works rendering with photo-view-360. I've got the model already loaded into Maya. Let's take a look at that. You'll see that I've added a wrist band and I just created that directly within Maya. But the watch parts themselves were created in SolidWorks and I imported them into Maya. The normal process for importing is to go to the File menu and simply choose Import. And it will go to your current scenes folder by default and you'll see under files of type you can choose among all of these different file formats.
