Video: Creating a folder and adding the starter files

Now to begin our project, let's create a new folder on the desktop. We'll name this myTooltip. I am going to just resize this a little bit and put it over here on the side. Once that folder is created, let's come back to the exercise files, let's open up folder 1, and let's grab a copy of the of the images directory, the includes directory and the index.html, and let's drag a copy of these over into that folder we just created on the desktop.

Creating a folder and adding the starter files

Now to begin our project, let's create a new folder on the desktop. We'll name this myTooltip. I am going to just resize this a little bit and put it over here on the side. Once that folder is created, let's come back to the exercise files, let's open up folder 1, and let's grab a copy of the of the images directory, the includes directory and the index.html, and let's drag a copy of these over into that folder we just created on the desktop.

So as I mentioned before, I have already gone ahead and created some of these files. I want to focus this course on creating the actual tooltip. So I want to give you a web page that you can actually work inside of, if you choose not to work inside of your existing website. And so what we are going to have here inside of the includes directory, is a copy of jQuery. I have two CSS files; the tooltip.css file has some rules in it, just for the layout. We are going to be adding our own in for the tooltip. The ie version of the CSS is empty. We are going to put our own CSS rules in there, and in the images directory, we have all of the graphics that the layout uses.

So to take a quick peek at the layout, let's open up the index.html file up in a browser. So what we have here is a really simple, straightforward layout. We have a heading area across the top. We have a content area over on the left-hand side, and then a sidebar area over on the right-hand side. The design is liquid, so you can condense this down. We are actually going to be using this feature to show how we actually switch the tooltip from the right side to the left side, like we looked at in the introduction video. So now that we have a web page that we can put a tooltip into, next we'll work on customizing the graphics.
